Transgenic mice on a genetic background that involves C57BL/6J and CBA/J show a marked increase in CETP mRNA in liver when mice are fed a high fat, high cholesterol diet. Less dramatic increases are observed in spleen, small intestine and adipose tissues. Elevated plasma CETP protein levels are also observed. The transgene contains the human CETP mini gene under the control of its own promoter. The mini gene consists of 3.2 Kb of 5' flanking sequence, exons 1-2 and 13-16, and 2.0 Kb of 3' flanking sequence.
