Gross Description
moderately hyperglycemic +/Akita female
Body weight =22g; plasma glucose=301 mg/dl at 24 wk
Microscopic Description
islets exhibit disturbed architecture and contain variably degranulated beta
cell. However, the fact that granulated beta cells (blue stain) are present in
reasonable numbers markedly distinguishes the Akita females from the Akita
males. Beta cells in the latter are nearly completely degranulated, and islets
are less prevalent.
