Description FVB-Ove26 males were outcrossed with ALR/LtJ, PWK/J, and
NON/ShiLtJ in an effort to mitigate the severity of the
diabetic syndrome while preserving development of diabetic
complications, particularly the diabetic nephropathy. As
expected, (NONFVB)F1 and (ALRFVB)F1 hybrids of both sexes
with or without the transgene gained more weight than the
respective FVB parental. Interestingly, (PWKFVB)F1 mice with
or without Ove26 weighed less than the respective FVB
parental. However, the three hybrid stocks showed no
diminution in the severity of the diabetes syndrome and no
major differences in renal function in comparison to the
parental FVB-Ove26 stock. Comparative kidney histopathology
results are pending. Serum triglycerides were very high in
all Ove26 mice at 26 weeks, with highest concentrations
observed in (NONFVB)F1-Ove26 males, the hybrid stock showing
the greatest weight gain.
